(TTO) – For the first time, Hai Van tunnel operator has practiced firefighting and rescue in tunnel No. 2. This is a preparatory step before this tunnel is officially put into use.
On the afternoon of December 30, Hai Van tunnel operator coordinated with Da Nang authorities to practice fire prevention and fighting in tunnel No. 2.
The hypothetical situation is “through the camera monitoring screen and traffic sensors, Hai Van Tunnel Operations Center spotted that a truck moving in the south-north direction the suddenly has a flat tire, lost control, crashed into the tunnel wall and overturned.
At the same time, a passenger car traveling in the same direction behind the truck could not keep its distance, crashed into the truck, causing a fire, spreading to other vehicles, many people were injured”.
Mr. Vo Ngoc Trung, deputy general director of Deo Ca Transport Infrastructure Investment Joint Stock Company (the tunnel operator), said that this is the first fire training in Hai Van 2 tunnel to enhance the ability to handle fire and explosion incidents before this tunnel is put into use in January 2021.
This fire drill is different from the previous ones in that the vehicle volume in the tunnel is high, the traffic in the tunnel is blocked for a long time. Besides that, traffic participants also join in fire prevention and fighting, ensuring that the incident is resolved as quickly as possible.
After nearly 2 years of construction, Hai Van 2 road tunnel has been completed and accepted by the State Council. It is expected to be put into use in the coming days.
When being put into use, Hai Van 2 tunnel will contribute to reducing traffic pressure for Hai Van 1 tunnel, which has total traffic of 33 million vehicles after more than 15 years of being put into use.
