At 3.45 P.M on September 4, 2021, a container truck with the control plate 51C – 440.30 moving in the north-south direction was spotted smoke coming out from its trunk when passing Bac Hai Van toll station. Immediately, Hai Van Tunnel Operations Center mobilized rescuers to rescue and fight fires and at the same time deploying specialized fire engines and water tankers to coordinate with local firefighting forces to deploy firefighting.
The fire coming from deep inside the sealed container causing a huge amount of smoke covered the square area, the functional force opened the container and moved the packages out. The goods including rubber soles, electronics, industrial paper… were very flammable. Facing such a complicated fire, the operation management unit and the local fire brigade of Phuc Loc district – Thua Thien Hue have arranged crane trucks to coordinate with forklifts and ladders to dismantle goods and spray water.

After nearly 5 hours of unloading goods and fight the fire, by 9:30 pm, a large number of goods had been removed from the container and the fire was completely extinguished

This incident shows that the rescuing and firefighting force of the tunnel operation management unit plays a very important role in the timely detection and handling of unexpected situations, especially fire incidents of vehicles when traveling through the tunnel. The timely handling of the operation management unit has minimized damage to vehicles and protected the lives of people.
